Swindon Town v Wigan Athletic tips - Can Di Canio cause an upset?

Paulo Di Canio will be hoping to mastermind a cup upset on Saturday
It may be League Two against Premier League at the County Ground but Swindon Town manager Paulo Di Canio will believe his side can beat Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

There were plenty of eyebrows raised when Paulo Di Canio was appointed manager of League Two side Swindon Town and many people, including the bookmakers, thought that the Italian would have stormed out of the club in a blaze of glory by now.

There have been arguments this season, most notably when Di Canio and Leon Clarke came to blows back in September but the manager has weathered the storm and Swindon are challenging for automatic promotion this season.

They have the chance to make yet more headlines on Saturday, when Premier League side Wigan Athletic visit the County Ground. The Latics are struggling to cling on to their top flight status this season and there will be plenty of punters willing to oppose them this weekend. Bet Victor offer a best price of 21/10 on the hosts, while Betfred make it 23/10 that the match is drawn.

Those prices may appeal to Robins' fans but they are too short to be taken seriously. Yes, Wigan look one of the most vulnerable Premier League sides in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup but there is a huge gulf in quality between the bottom of the Premier League and the top of League Two.

Wigan have drawn with Liverpool, Chelsea and Stoke City in their last five matches and there is no shame in a heavy defeat at Old Trafford. The 4-1 loss to Sunderland was poor but Roberto Martinez couldn't have asked for a better follow up fixture than a meeting with a vastly inferior side. It is 6/4 at Sky Bet that they win at the County Ground on Saturday and that is too good to turn down.
