nPower Championship tips - Tuesday's best bets

Leicester City can celebrate a win over Nottingham Forest this evening
There are five matches taking place in the nPower Championship on Tuesday with Leicester City and Hull City both fancied to claim wins to boost their playoff credentials.

There are just seven rounds of Championship fixtures remaining and the picture is beginning to look much clearer in English football's second tier with Southampton looking certainties for promotion and Reading now strong contenders to go up with the Saints.

West Ham had looked like title challengers but a poor run of results has seen Sam Allardyce's side drop to third place and they now face a battle to avoid the playoffs. They face Peterborough this evening and one would imagine that if they can't score against Posh then they can't score against anyone. The Hammers are a top price of evens at Coral to win at London Road although it is difficult to back a side that have drawn five consecutive matches. It is 5/2 that the Irons make it six draws in a row or 13/5 that Peterborough cause an upset.

Behind West Ham there is a real battle on to make the playoff places and two teams that will be desperate for victories tonight to keep their challenges alive are Leicester City and Hull City. The Foxes host Nottingham Forest at the King Power Stadium and they look like a good bet at 10/11 to beat the Tricky Trees. Leicester have had a tough run of fixtures in recent weeks but they have beaten Birmingham City and Hull City plus drawn with Blackpool in their last three and that form is better than anything Forest have shown recently (a freak 7-3 win over Leeds United apart).

Leicester beat Hull City on Saturday, making it two losses in a row for the Togers but they have a much easier task tonight against Portsmouth at Fratton Park. Pompey are bottom of the Championship and have won none of their last ten, failing to score in seven of their last nine. Nick Barmby has made Hull a very solid side at the back and they will probably only need one goal to see off Portsmouth this evening and odds of 13/8 that they win the match look very generous.

Finally, it is also worth including Crystal Palace in midweek accumulators, at odds of 4/5. The Londoners don't score too many goals but their loss to Derby on Saturday was their first in eleven matches. They are stronger at home than away and they have won three of their last four at Selhurst Park, without conceding a goal. Doncaster, for all their big names, look like relegation certainties this season and would be bottom if it wasn't for Portsmouth's points deduction. Their 2-0 defeat to Southampton on Saturday made it three losses in a row for Rovers and they look set for a fourth this evening.

A treble on Leciester City, Hull City and Crystal Palace this evening will return odds of 8/1 at Coral and that looks good to warrant a small punt on a Tuesday night.
