Championship leaders Southampton will be desperate to return to winning ways when they visit Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Saints are fortunate to still sit at the summit following a poor run of form that stretches back to the start of December. Since their win at Hull City on November 29, Southampton have managed just one victory, and they come into this match on the back of defeats against Bristol City and Brighton. These are testing times for the South Coast club, who have experienced nothing but good times since Nigel Adkins took charge last season.
Adkins led Southampton out of League One in his first season in charge and then guided them to top spot in spectacular fashion. Their stumble has not proved too costly just yet, with West Ham failing to pounce, but they cannot afford to give the Hammers many more chances in the race for the Championship title. Therefore a trip to struggling Nottingham Forest could well be ideal timing (Southampton 6/4, Draw 12/5, Forest 2/1 @ BetVictor).
The Tricky Trees are currently stuck in the relegation zone and have tasted defeat in their last four home games in the Championship. Their last victory – which came at the City Ground – was a 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town back on November 19, and if Forest are to have any chance of staying up they need to improve their home form.
Southampton’s away form has not been a patch on their record at home, but they should still have enough to return to the South Coast with three points in the bag.
