Glenn Hoddle is the odds-on favourite to be appointed the next Nottingham Forest manager after a tweet by Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony appeared to link him with the role.
Forest sacked Steve Cotterill just 24 hours after the club was taken over by the wealthy Al Hasawi family from Kuwait, who are understood to want a big name running the football side at the City Ground.
Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson was the bookmakers’ original favourite after being linked with the former European champions while the takeover was still pending.
But MacAnthony, who understandably does not want to lose his promising young manager, steered the speculation in another direction via Twitter.
MacAnthony tweeted: “Sources tell me GH for NF job! Hopefully puts stop to all rumours about our gaffer!”
As a result, Hoddle is just 2/5 in places for the Forest job but can still be backed at 10/11 with Ladbrokes
The former England boss left his job with the national team in 1998 following comments he made in a newspaper interview and has not managed a club since 2006 when he parted company with Wolves.
