The Championship’s two bottom clubs meet at the Madejski in what will undoubtedly be a nervous affair, with a win vital to both sides as they look to get their seasons back on track.
Doncaster are in dire straits after picking up only one point in their opening half-dozen matches. Since talisman Billy Sharp’s injury on the opening day they have struggled up front, scoring just twice.
Reading had a steady start to their campaign with a victory and a draw in their first two matches, before four straight league defeats which now sees them sit just one from bottom in the table.
Despite their poor run, the Royals are clear favourites for Saturday’s clash and are priced 8/13 with
Paddy Power to see off Donny. Of the last six encounters between these two clubs, Reading have triumphed in five of them and drawn the other, so if history is to repeat itself the away side are due yet more misery.
Sean O’Driscoll’s side are undoubtedly in a lot of trouble, and are priced as long as 5/1 (
bet365) to pull off an unlikely victory in Berkshire. For all their neat football and pattern play, the South Yorkshire club are finding it extremely difficult to convert their possession into goals.
Even the price of a draw is longer than is typical for a Championship match, at 3/1 with
StanJames.
New Reading recruit Adam Le Fondre is favourite to score the first goal. The former Rotherham striker is priced at 5/1 with
888sport.
Despite their indifferent showing so far, I really to think Reading will win this match. They are 8/5 with
Boylesports to be leading at the break and full-time. I can’t really see Doncaster scoring, so if they concede early on it could be game over.
Unibet will pay 31/4 on a 2-0 Reading victory – which is the same margin Donny last by last week away at Cardiff. I have a feeling the “nil” could become a theme for them this season unless Sharp recovers quickly or they seek reinforcements.
