West Ham and Southampton go head-to-head on Tuesday night in a huge top-of-the-table clash in the Championship.

The Hammers recently wrestled top spot from their visitors, and Sam Allardyce’s men come into this match knowing that a victory will send them four points clear of their title rivals, with a game-in-hand too (West Ham Championship Winner 11/10 @ SkyBet). Therefore the pressure is firmly on Southampton (4/1) to avoid leaving Upton Park empty-handed, but their away form is pretty average and West Ham will be keen to capitalise on it as they seek an immediate return to the Premier League.

West Ham recently saw their three-game winning run ended by a 5-1 humbling at the hands of Ipswich Town, but they bounced back with a big derby win over Millwall. Meanwhile, Southampton (To Be Promoted – Evens @ bet365) were in action this past weekend and they finally returned to winning ways. Saints’ title quest has come off the rails since Christmas and they went into that match having recorded just one victory since Boxing Day, but Adam Lallana and debutant Billy Sharp (Anytime Goalscorer – 12/5 @ SkyBet) were on target as they ran out winners against Burnley. Nigel Adkins will be hoping that result will be the catalyst for another good run of form, but taking three points at Upton Park will be a big ask for his team.

Saints have failed to beat a top-half side when they have travelled this season, and for that reason an away victory looks highly unlikely. Adkins and Co would accept a draw from this match and the Hammers would probably be happy with that too, because that would maintain their one-point advantage at the summit with an extra game still to play.
