Cardiff are looking to make it back-to-back wins to start their season, while Brighton are still seeking their first point after an opening-day defeat to Hull.

The Bluebirds kicked off the Championship season on Friday night of last week with a narrow win over newly-promoted Huddersfield. Cardiff captain Mark Hudson struck in the dying minutes of injury time to give his team a 1-0 win and kick-start the Welsh club’s new era.

“It was a tough game,” said Malky Mackay after the win. “They frustrated us, got everyone behind the ball and tried to break on the counter and made a couple of chances of their own and we had to make sure David Marshall was on his toes with those.

"But I thought we were brave, brave on the ball to keep going, to keep probing and to keep trying to find those spaces.”

Brighton, conversely, fell foul of a late goal away to Hull. Jay Simpson’s first goal in 16 months denied Gus Poyet’s side who were also beaten earlier in the week 3-0 by Swindon in the Capital One Cup.

“In my opinion, we were the better team. If we can do what we did for 88 minutes, I think we'll be a good team this season,” said Poyet after the defeat.

"I'm very positive. The players are down, but I've told them not to worry. I will have chances to be mad with them this season, but this is not the day to do that.

"The kind of performance we produced and the way we played was of a very good level."
