Mowbray takes his Boro team to Barnsley on Tuesday and will look to extend his teams unbeaten run - and cause more problems for Barnsley boss Keith Hill.

Barnsley take on Middlesbrough on Tuesday at Oakwell and it looks as though, if early season form is anything to go by, that these two teams will be fighting at opposite ends of the division come April.

Barnsley ended a poor first week of the season, despite a commendable draw at Forest, in which they lost to Morecambe in the League Cup by losing at home to Southampton by a goal to nil on Saturday.

Middlesbrough have had an encouraging start to the season, remaining unbeaten in their three games, including a 1-0 win at Leeds on Saturday, courtesy of a Marvin Emnes strike.

Of the last six meetings between the teams at Oakwell, Barnsley have won four to Boro’s one, with one draw, with Barnsley winning in both of the previous two seasons.

Despite this, the bookies make Boro slight favourites on the night at 6/4 with Betfred, whilst the home team are 15/8 with bet365, with the draw at 12/5 with Unibet.

The Tykes are yet to score a goal this season and to not score again are 13/8 in William Hill’s ‘time of 1st home goal market’.

Perhaps even more tempting though is Middlesbrough to win to nil at 3/1 (bet365), as the north-east club have kept two clean sheets in as many games, and Barnsley’s misfiring strike-force may take a little longer to get their act together.

Boro’s front two Scott McDonald (6/1 with bet365) and Marvin Emnes (13/2 with bet365) should have the skill to break the Barnsley defence. Both of last season’s meetings between the teams contained under 2.5 goals and a low scoring affair looks likely again, with under 2.5 goals at 3/4 with bet365.

Recommendation: Middlesbrough to win to nil @ 3/1 with bet365.
