Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson has emerged as the favourite to become the new Nottingham Forest manager after the Al-Hasawi family wasted no time in sacking Steve Cotterill.
Cotterill had only been in charge since October, but in this time he had already lost some of the fans and it certainly appeared that he lacked the necessary ingredients to fulfil the ambitious future plans of the new owners.
The former Burnley manager had seemingly done his job in helping the club secure their Championship survival, but a bigger name is now required to carry Nottingham Forest forward with their new presence.
Gianni Paladini has reportedly been tasked by the new owners with replacing Cotterill and this is the reason for Ferguson’s position towards the head of
Ladbrokes’ betting (1/1 favourite) to be the next Nottingham Forest manager.
Ferguson has secured three promotions in a relatively short managerial career, but this would be by far his biggest job and he would be severely inexperienced when it comes to managing at a higher level.
Redknapp is next in the market at 7/2 and in direct comparison to Ferguson, this would be a major step down in level for him.
The problem with Redknapp is knowing whether he would want to step down from the Premier League and also whether a regular commute to Nottingham is within his compass from the south coast.
Diego Maradona is one of the more interesting names in the market at 16/1 having just lost his job in the UAE with Al Wasl.
Alternatively, Stuart Pearce is 12/1 and could take over after leading Team GB at the Olympic Games, given his strong connection with the club from his playing days.
