Emile Heskey is poised for an emotional return to his first club Leicester City after being released by Aston Villa this summer.

The former England striker had been strongly linked with Hull City and Ipswich Town but is now set to rejoin the Foxes.

Bookmakers BetVictor and Sky Bet have both slashed the odds for Heskey to sign for Leicester to 4/6, with Hull out to 4/1 at BetVictor and Ipswich 5/1.

The 34-year-old played 154 games for Leicester and scored 40 goals before making an £11million move to Liverpool in March 2000.

He spent four years at Anfield, where he again averaged around a goal every four games, before signing for Birmingham City in a £3.5million deal.

Despite signing a five-year contract at St Andrew’s, he lasted only two seasons there and was then on the move to Wigan Athletic who paid £5.5million for his services.

Villa became the sixth club Heskey had played for when he made a £3.5million move back to the city of Birmingham following three years with the Latics.

After just nine goals in 92 games for the Villans, Heskey was allowed to leave this summer at the end of his three-and-a-half year contract and it now looks as though his nomadic career has turned full circle and taken him back to his home city.

Heskey won 62 England caps and scored seven goals before retiring from international football after the 2010 World Cup, during which he started the opening 1-1 draw with the United States.
