A 1-0 home win over Nottingham Forest has seen Reading FC win promotion to the 'promised land' of the Barclays Premier League.
Reading FC beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 at the Madejski Stadium and, thanks to West Ham's inability to win against Bristol City at Ashton Gate, have now won promotion to the Premier League. Mikele Leigertwood scored the Royals only goal after 81 minutes against Forest, which sparked huge celebrations amongst the home supporters, who make the return to the top flight for the first time since they were relegated in 2008.
Southampton's 3-1 win over Peterborough United has left the Saints five points clear of West Ham in the race to be promoted with Reading. Nigel Adkins side now need just one point from their final two games to reach the Premier League.
A 2-0 win for Cardiff City over Derby County on Tuesday has also more or less settled the playoff picture in the nPower Championship as the Welsh club, currently in sixth place, have now opened up a four point gap over Middlesbrough in that particular battle.
At the bottom of the table a 1-0 defeat for Coventry City against Millwall has left the Sky Blues five points behind Bristol City and it now looks certain that Andy Thorn's side will be playing in League One with Portsmouth and Doncaster Rovers next season.
