New Birmingham City boss Lee Clark will make Peter Lovenkrands the first addition to his squad as he looks to take Blues back into the Premier League.

Lovenkrands was released by Newcastle United at the end of the season, having spent three years at St James’ Park after joining from German Bundesliga side Schalke. The former Denmark international also spent six successful years north of the border with Rangers earlier in his career.

The 32-year-old Danish striker's move will be formalised after a medical and comes after Birmingham's transfer embargo was lifted by the Football League.

"Personal terms have been agreed with the former Newcastle United man and the 32-year-old is set to report to Wast Hills this morning (Monday) ahead of the Blues squad returning for 2012/13 pre-season training," confirmed a statement on the club's official website.

"Lovenkrands will undergo a medical today and Lee Clark hopes to confirm the great Dane as his first signing as Blues boss."

Lovenkrands, who scored 26 goals in 85 appearances for Newcastle, had previously attracted attention from former City bosses Chris Hughton and Alex McLeish.

City are 7/1 with bet365 to be promoted to the Premier League next year, while Wolves are at 11/4 and Leicester City can be backed at 15/8.
